The Norse World Tree is beautifully sculpted in wood by artist Paul Borda then meticously cast in resin with a wood finish.
The Norse World Tree or Yggdrasil is depicted with Odin sacrificing himself as an initiation into the Mysteries as referenced in the Havamal. Above him Ratatosk, the squirrel ferries insults between Niddhogg the dragon, the force of destruction in the tree's roots and the Eagle who represents the highest spiritual light. The three Norns are seen as Past, Present and Future as they constantly pour healing waters on the tree's roots to heal the damage of Niddhogg. Below them sits Hel in the Underworld flanked by Asgard with its Rainbow Bridge and Jotunheim with Mimir's head.
Measures 19 x 9 x 1 3/4 inches. Lovely sculpture by artist Paul Borda is cast in resin and hand finished in stone or wood finish.
This piece was seen in "Captain America: The First Avenger" during the montage about the Red Skull.

Resin is a polymer which can be used for making molds as well as cast in molds. Cold-cast resin is generally for sculpture and means that the resin material is cast without the need for the extreme heat of a foundry. It holds very sharp detail when cast. Most of the major lines of figurines on the market today are made of cold cast resin. It is fragile if dropped and fractures similar to glass, usually in clean pieces which can be glued using a household super glue. |
